Sunday Scribblings...The Ideal View

The view from every room in our house is fairly ugly. There is no one lovely view, and even just an okay view in some rooms would be nice, but alas, our house is situated where it is, and I'm not complaining, only...

The ideal view would go like this...

From the door into the room you can see the window. It is medium-sized with a diamond lattice. Just to the right of it is a little Dutch door that leads to an iron balcony. From the balcony, the landscape rolls to the sea. Across the bay there are cliffs and cool blue mountains. Turning to the left, there are green hills not too far in the distance. To the right the grass keeps rolling and dipping shallowly until the horizon ends...

This isn't very different from the view you can see when you are closer to Galway Bay. It is the view we might have if we lived farther to the west and closer to the shore. It is imaginary though, as geographically it is unsound.

Beautiful view. This reinforces the idea that the best view is probably none at all. Then...you get to create one more wonderful than any that exists.
I love this photo.

We have this debate in our house, as I look over the garden but given the need to see the computer, the blinds are down so I never see anything. My wife is always on about throwing the window open but... Thanks for dropping by To hear or read my Sunday Scribble click here.

And yet I would give so much to have your view. I visited Scotland and England with my mother some years ago. I have always wanted to return and see Scotland too. I would live there if I could. My family comes from Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland not so many generations back. Maybe it's in my DNA :)

I would love to see the views you say are not lovely. i am contemplating buying a house with no views, ugly views. that would be a move from a house with a beautiful view. interesting though what different people call a beautiful vs ugly view.

Actually sukipoet, you made me think. They aren't that bad. I guess just the fact that we live in such a beautiful country in a beautiful area and yet our most prominent view (living/dining room) is of a three metre hedge is saddening. But hey, at least we can see green!
