Contrast: Light and Seasons

We went to Coole Park briefly this past weekend, and we have been a few times before. There is a particular pathway near the toilets with overhanging trees. I took two photos of it. One was early this year, 2nd February. The second is from this past weekend, the 15th August. The difference in light  (though taken around the same time of day) and tree growth is amazing.

Doesn't it just change the entire atmosphere as well? The first is like a Grimm forest, the second is a Disney forest (Yes, still haven't gotten over Tinkerbell's de-sass-ification).

Oooh! I love this! It has inspired all sorts of ideas...it would make for a great photo essay.

Interesting idea Melissa...The second one makes me want to jump into it, it just looks so sublime. It didn't seem quite so surreal when there hoverer. The first one was a much more enjoyable visit because it was the dead of winter and there were hardly any people at all, where the second one was summer and it was packed with all sorts of foreigners, locals, and others.
Also, the lake there (Coole Lough), which inspired W.B. Yeats's 'The Wild Swans at Coole' is a turlough, which means the water level can be vastly different in winter and summer, as the water is underground for most of the year. In winter, the water is so much higher (and more lovely).
However, in winter, the swans are normally absent (at least, you have a much greater chance of seeing some in summer).
It really is a gorgeous place. I would definitely tell people visiting the west of Ireland (or living there!) to see it. It is almost the same as it was in the time of Yeats, and one would expect to see a 19th or 20th century lady around every bend in the path.
